Pit Bull Mix Puppy Litter Arrives In Salem After South Carolina Rescue

SALEM, MA — Five pit bull mix puppies rescued from an animal abuse situation in South Carolina arrived in Salem on Tuesday as the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Northeast Animal Shelter, NBCUniversal and shelters across the country launch an adoption push for Clear the Shelters month in August.

The litter of 10-week-old puppies was seized from neglectful owners in Marlboro County, South Carolina, who were charged with animal cruelty, with injuries on their backs caused by a metal sheet SC animal control officials said the puppies had to crawl under to get to food, water and the outdoors.

An MSPCA spokesperson told Patch the puppies will be available for adoption following their state-mandated 48-hour quarantine and after receiving any medical attention they need.

Northeast Animal Shelter officials are hoping that will be sometime next week.

The MSPCA and Northeast Animal Shelter are offering their fee-waived adoption for small animals once again this weekend and will have another dog adoption event next week in Salem and the adoption centers in Boston, Cape Cod and Methuen.

Clear the Shelters is NBCUniversal Local's nationwide pet adoption and donation campaign returning in 2023 for its ninth consecutive year.

NBCUniversal Local is teaming up with hundreds of shelters across the country to host nationwide pet adoption and donation campaign that helps find loving homes for animals in need.

More than 860K pets have found their forever homes as part of the campaigns since 2015.
